Running for a Greater Reward
September 21, 2007--Money was raised in Northern Ireland recently for La Biblia Dice, Back to the Bible's ministry in Latin America. A friend of La Biblia Dice, who once worked for Back to the Bible in the UK, ran a half-marathon in Derry. Rather than just run for the fun of it, he raised sponsorship for La Biblia Dice's ministry among the Quichua people. So far, he has received about $3,000.
When Revival Comes
September 18, 2007--The so-called Warsaw Bible is a Protestant Polish translation. The latest edition, which was to last till the end of the year, sold out in just a few weeks. This is evidence of a hunger for God's Word in Poland. Henryk Dedo, director of Voice of the Gospel, Back to the Bible's Polish ministry, wonders how they will obtain enough copies of the Bible when revivals come to that land. Lord willing, Voice of the Gospel will be one of God's instruments of revival when it comes.
Unshakable Faith
September 13, 2007--Indonesia has been hit by several earthquakes in the last two days. Frans Silalahi, our Indonesian director, reports that our radio station in North Sumatra faced a power outage but was able to stay on the air thanks to a generator. The first earthquakes struck on the first day of Ramadan. Frans asks for prayer, saying that at this time of year anything can happen. The earthquakes serve as a reminder that they must keep the faith.
Coming Soon to TV
September 7, 2007--Earlier this week, Good News Broadcasting Society, our Indian ministry, did its first video shoot in its studio. A new Christian TV channel is launching on October 1 and has given GNBS a free half-hour slot for Bible discussion. Two Telugu programs were prepared. We praise God for this wonderful opportunity!
Jamaica Survives Election
September 4, 2007--Our Jamaican staff recently asked for prayer concerning their national elections. They were postponed for a week after Hurricane Dean caused so much damage. Today we hear that Jamaica's Labour Party (JLP) has won a narrow victory. This ends the People's National Party's 18-year reign. The island appears to have largely escaped election day violence, though at least ten people died in shootings during the final weekend of campaigning.
Honored to Compete
August 23, 2007--One of our Voice of the Gospel (Poland) productions will participate in a prestigious competition. A documentary about World War II and the people who survived concentration camp in Poland, produced by Voice of the Gospel, will compete in the Prix Europa in mid-October. Broadcasters and production companies from 36 countries entered 671 productions. Only about 40 were accepted--and March of the Living was one. Even qualifying to compete is an honor!
Jamaican Ministry Spared
August 21, 2007--Our Jamaican staff is safe in the wake of Hurricane Dean. Barrington Laing, Director of Back to the Bible Caribbean, reports that he, the staff and our building in Kingston came through without significant loss. Jamaica was spared a direct hit by the hurricane but did get high winds and rain, resulting in power outages and some water damage. Electricity is still out but should be restored by the weekend.
Encouragement Needed
August 15, 2007--Churches outside Japan's major cities are small. Most pastors have to work part-time to make ends meet. Churches that report only three new members after ten years of evangelism are not rare. After 20 years, one church has just six in attendance, including the pastor’s family. Board members of Back to the Bible's Japanese ministry, BJapan, have visited a number of these pastors and churches. One was encouraged by the faithfulness of those who serve with such meager results. Pray that God would use BJapan to encourage these faithful Christians.
Rebuilding Lives
August 10, 2007--Back to the Bible's Tamil ministry team ministered last weekend in a zone affected by Sri Lanka's ethnic conflict. Hundreds gathered to study the Bible and worship God in a village that suffered extensive damage in the 2004 tsunami. Its people are gradually rebuilding their lives and village. Due to the constant disaster, the war and the difficulties with which they live, many have lost hope. Our Sri Lankan staff is grateful to have had this opportunity to share the hope that is in Christ.
Public School for Jesus
August 7, 2007--Verdade Biblica, our Brazilian ministry, is doing "Public School for Jesus" meetings this month. This is a series of evangelistic gatherings held in public schools. Last year, 1,800 kids made decisions for Christ. There is no way of knowing how many will respond this year, but over 4,000 will hear the Gospel. Pray for this undertaking!
