History

Back to the Bible was founded in Lincoln, Nebraska USA, by Mr. Theodore Epp in 1939, with broadcasts over one radio station.  Today, the broadcast produces over 70 programs in 25 languages spoken by 56% of the world's population. In addition to its radio broadcasts, it uses the Internet, TV and other media to share the Gospel message.

In May of 1955, TEAM missionaries Don and Freda Rubesh partnered with Back to the Bible to launch Back to the Bible's ministry in Sri Lanka. Historically, Back to the Bible launched its ministry in many parts of the world by partnering with faith-based mission boards working there. In this particular case, TEAM missionaries had been working in Sri Lanka.

While it is true that Sri Lanka's population is not staggering, it was and still is a crucial location for transmitters to reach other places such as India. Don and Freda then began hiring Sri Lankan staff to become involved in the ministry, eventually airing English-language programs produced by the US office and then Tamil and Sinhalese programs produced locally. In 1981, Back to the Bible purchased land in a prime location in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and built a new office/studio complex.

Today the entire staff is made up of nationals who speak Tamil, Sinhalese and English. From this office, Don Rubesh traveled to northern India where Back to the Bible eventually opened an office for ministry in India.
